VyAyr Fitness: Energy to Live Your Life

At VyAyr Fitness we believe that joy and confidence are sexier than a six-pack, that the running shoe is mightier than the bathroom scale, that you don’t have to run a four-minute mile to be fit (or to be welcome), and that working out with a group of cool women is a million times more inspiring than riding an elliptical machine that’s dripping with someone else’s sweat.

VyAyr Fitness workouts are designed to energize you, not exhaust you. There’s a new workout every day of the week so you’ll never get bored, and they’re crafted so that every muscle group does its fair share of the work. Women’s problem spots get special attention, too, with targeted exercises.

So, what do we do in a typical week at VyAyr Fitness?

  • We run or we walk. Sometimes we sprint .
  • We run on sand, on stairs and on hills.
  • We play on obstacle courses.
  • We do calisthenics, which is really just a fancy word for squats and lunges.
  • We use our bodies for resistance in push-ups and dips.
  • We do exercises geared to improve agility.
  • We do partner drills. That means we do one thing while our partner does another. You can push yourself or you can push your partner, whatever motivates you the most.
  • We do plyometrics – another fancy word for exercises that require bursts of power.
  • We stretch and lift weights.
  • We use Pilates and yoga to work on our core.
  • We take fitness tests in weeks one and four so we can track our progress.

The nuts and bolts:

  • VyAyr Fitness boot camp is a four-week session. You can join us year-round, or you can drop in a few times a year to reenergize your workout. But consider yourselves (and your gyms) warned: our workouts are addictive.
  • Join us 3, 4 or 5 days a week. You pick the days that are most convenient for you.
  • We meet on Crissy Field Monday through Thursday. Fridays are Cardio Days, and we meet at various locations throughout the city including the Lyon Street Stairs and the Warming Hut near the Golden Gate Bridge.
  • You’ll need a set of hand-weights. If you haven’t lifted weights in a while, you might start with 3-5 pounds apiece. If you’re used to lifting weights, up it to 8-10.
  • We recommend running shoes rather than walking or cross-trainers (and we can help you find the pair that’s the best fit for you).
  • You’ll also need a pair of gloves to protect your hands from the gravel, a yoga or exercise mat for core work, and plenty of fresh water to stay hydrated.

The Benefits:

  • Less fat. More muscle. (Many participants lose weight. Since muscle weighs more than fat, the tape measure may change more than the scale.)
  • Increased endurance, strength and flexibility
  • Improved self-confidence
  • Pre- and post-session consultations including goal planning & fitness assessment
  • Nutritional assessment and recommendation
  • A women-only team workout environment
  • Your choice of a VyAyr Fitness baseball tee, tank or long-sleeved thermal. (Slaves to the scale? Never. But slaves to fashion? Maybe.)

What’s the bottom line? All this for under $17 a class!

  • 3-days per week: $200
  • 4-days per week: $260
  • 5-days per week: $300

Remember, all fitness levels are welcome – we really mean it.
